How FASTag volume moved from May to September
FASTag is the electronic toll payment tag run on NPCI's National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) system. NPCI publishes monthly figures for the number of banks live, tags issued, toll and parking transactions, annual pass transactions and the value of payments.
September's 337.34 million transactions were lower than July's 347.35 million and well below May's 375.23 million, the highest of the months in the 2026-27 financial year so far. September has 30 days and August has 31, which works out to an average of about 11.2 million transactions a day in September against about 11.3 million a day in August. Average daily value was about Rs 236.5 crore in September, up from about Rs 231.8 crore in August.

Compared with September 2025, when FASTag value was about Rs 6,421 crore, the September 2026 value is up about 10.5%.
Why tags issued kept rising while monthly transactions dipped
The two numbers measure different things. The tag figure is a running total of all FASTags issued, so it only goes up, while the transaction figure counts the toll and parking payments made in that single month. NPCI's table shows the tag total rising every month from April to September 2026.
Annual pass transactions, which NPCI lists separately, were 80.33 million in September, down from 85.64 million in August, a fall of about 6.2%.
