Virtusa, the US-headquartered product and platform engineering services company, on Wednesday said it has acquired Bengaluru-based SmartSoC Solutions, a semiconductor engineering and integrated circuit (IC) design services firm, for an undisclosed value.
In a statement, Virtusa said the acquisition will strengthen its position in advanced silicon as SmartSoC has expertise in silicon design, verification and embedded systems engineering. It also expands Virtusa's semiconductor engineering footprint in India and strengthens global delivery.
The acquisition brings in more than 1,400 engineers for Virtusa, with centres in Bengaluru, Hubli, and Hyderabad. The statement said the current leadership of SmartSoC will continue with Virtusa.
“The acquisition of SmartSoC is transformational for Virtusa… As AI models become more complex and data centre investment surges globally, having in-house chip design capabilities is crucial,” said Nitesh Banga, CEO of Virtusa.
SmartSoC’s Founder and CEO, Bharath Desareddy, said the combined entity offers “a comprehensive, end-to-end digital engineering partner with true chip-to-cloud capabilities,” leveraging Virtusa’s global scale and relationships.
According to the statement, the semiconductor and systems engineering market is expanding rapidly, driven by smarter devices and accelerating investment in data centres and AI infrastructure. With the shift towards generative AI and edge computing, power-efficient chip design has become critical to help clients speed time-to-market for next-generation products.
This acquisition is expected to position Virtusa at the forefront of chip design innovation, enabling clients to accelerate time-to-market for next-generation products.
